18 April 2017 - Business Conditions Rise

National Australia Bank's widely watched Monthly Business Survey increased by 5 points to a reading of +14 last month, a healthier level than at any point since the global financial crisis. Driven mostly by the major services and wholesale sectors, the index was well above the long-term average of +5 points. Trading conditions were especially strong for businesses involved with personal services, recreational services, and apartment building, with discretionary retail services down. Business confidence remains subdued despite better conditions, however, with consumer confidence proving to be much more resilient in the latest Westpac index.
